APPROVAL OF THE 2015-2016 CLASSIFIED AND INSTRUCTIONAL BARGAINING AGREEMENTS
Description
On Friday, February 26, 2016, the bargaining teams for the School Board of Sarasota County and Sarasota Classified Teacher's Association reached tentative agreement on the collective bargaining agreements for both the Instructional and Classified Bargaining Units. Ratification packages for each tentative agreement are attached here. The tentative agreements include several key language. Most significant among them is the implementation of a Performance based salary schedule for instructional staff. The agreement maintains a "Grandfathered" salary and a new "Performance" salary schedule that generally applies to those teachers hired July 1, 2009 or later. For members of the Instructional Bargaining Unit, the agreement also includes what is essentially a 2.5% salary increase. How this increase impacts a particular teacher depends on a number of factors including their hire date and current step. For members of the Classified Bargaining Unit the agreement does not add money to the salary schedule but moves eligible classified staff up three steps on the salary schedule. For those not eligible for three steps (either because of their recent hire date or a high step) the agreement makes up the difference between the value of their step(s) and 2.5% with a one-time payment.
Recommendation
That the Board approved the changes to the Classified and Instructional Collective Bargaining Agreements between the School Board of Sarasota County and the Sarasota Classified Teacher's Association, and the associated salary schedules as presented.
